Morton Family History
Recorded in several forms including Morten, Morton, Moorton, Mourton, Moreton, Mairtoun, and Mirton, this interesting surname can be either English, Scottish or Irish. In all cases it is a locational surname, and if Scottish it originates from the village of Morton in Dumfriesshire, of from Mryrton (now Morton) in Fife. If English, it is from any of over twenty such places called either Moreton or Morton in the various English counties such as Berkshire, Cheshire, Devonshire, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire, and all variously recorded in the famous Domesday Book of 1086. Hi can you help me? The only information I have is that my part of the Morton family came from Antrim County, around 1773 and they sailed from Port Larne. Thanks
Michael Morton
I would love to know more about the history of MY Morton name. I believe I originated in Scotland because I paid quite a bit of money to have a ring made with the Morton family crest and thatโs what they came up with but who knows? I would really be interested in learning more!

She too travelled from Glasgow to N Brunswick ( St. John ) she was a nurse . My Grandas sister. The family was originally from Tipton Staffordshire, then Motherwell and Glasgow , with links to the steel industry.
I know we have family in Alberta too
But apparently we were initially from Belgium , moved to Nottingham and were involved in lace and the cotton industry
Of particular interest to me as well as family is military service.
