HANNON Family History

Recorded as Hannan, Hannon, Honnan and possibly others, this is a Gaelic surname which can be Scottish or Irish. It originates from the early clan name O' Hannain, meaning the male descendant of Annan, and originally the surname was associated with Counties Limerick, Galway and Roscommon. The first recording of the name dates back to the mid 13th Century (see below). The surname is often confused and particularly in Scotland with the surnames Hanna and Hannay, although these are thought to be from a completely different source. Early examples of recordings include Michael, son of John and Ellen Hannon, who was christened on October 19th 1795, at Mitchelstown, County Cork, Ireland whilst Patrick Hannan (1842 - 1925), who was born in County Clare, discovered the Kalgoorlie goldfield in Western Australia...

I come from a long line of Hannon's that I've traced back in the states, 5 generations. I've come to a dead end however once I got to the 3 brothers that came over from England. The one named John, is my line.

My Great Grandfather, Tacitus Hannon, was one of the first brain surgeons in the United States. He barely had graduated medical school in New York when he was drafted into the civil war. His uncle was the great "Moses Wright Hannon" who won many great battles in the civil war. My Great Grandfather, Tacitus went to go live with Moses Wright when he was a young boy in Alabama. My Great Grandfather had 10 children and my Grandfather, Clare Hannon Sr. was one of them.
My Great Grandfather and my Grandfather along with many of the other children and grandchildren ended up settling in Bowie County which is now Texarcana, Texas?. This is where my father, Clare Hannon Jr. was born.

My great great grandfather was James Hannon who lived in Halifax NS in the 1860s,His wife was betsy Lahey. I believe he was the brother of the Bishop of Halifax, Michael, who came from Killmallock Ireland. I was in Halifax looking for James' burial place and couldn't find it. I was also in Killmallock looking for info but have had no luck beyond finding James was a butcher.Any info would be welcome.
