Recorded as Galand, Galland, Gallant (England), Galan, Gallan, Gallen, Galand, Gallandre, Galland, Gallandon, Galant, Gallant (France), Galland (German and Flemish), Galante (Italian), and possibly others, this is a medieval surname which does basically mean what it says.
